However, <\/strong><strong>European Antibiotic Awareness Day<\/strong><strong>, which falls on November 18, reminds us of the need to use antibiotics wisely. These extremely important drugs, which effectively fight bacterial infections, if used incorrectly can cause the development of resistant bacteria, which is an increasing challenge for public health.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to understand that antibiotics only work on bacteria. This means that they are not effective against colds or flu, which are caused by viruses. Taking antibiotics in such a situation not only does not speed up our recovery, but also exposes us to unnecessary side effects, and more importantly, supports the development of bacterial resistance to drugs. As a result, the number of infections increases, which are more difficult to treat and may require stronger, more expensive therapies with a higher risk of side effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Antibiotic resistance is an increasingly serious problem that will continue to grow unless we change our approach. Resistant bacteria can survive treatment, leading to longer illnesses, more difficult infections, and in extreme cases, even death. As bacterial resistance increases, there is a real risk that antibiotics will become less effective, making it impossible to fight even the simplest infections. A responsible approach is our joint action for the health of current and future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#039;s remember to take antibiotics according to the doctor&#039;s recommendations - do not reduce the dose, do not shorten the therapy and never &quot;dose yourself&quot;. Each of us has an influence on whether antibiotics will be effective in the future. European Antibiotic Awareness Day is a reminder that our daily health choices matter - for us, our loved ones and the whole society.
