Early detection of cancer significantly increases the chances of complete recovery, experts emphasize. That is why education, prevention and early diagnosis of cancer diseases are so important. This applies in particular to the youngest patients, in whom the disease can have a very dynamic course. Since December 1, 2019, the TWÓJ LEKARZ Clinic on Zwycięska Street in Wrocław has been operating Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic. He leads her Dr. Dominika Kulej-Klimczak specialist in pediatrics, oncology and pediatric hematology. What problems are diagnosed and treated at the Clinic? As part of the consultation clinic, we provide advice to "small" patients with anemia (anaemias), coagulation disorders, recurrent nose bleeds, locally enlarged lymph nodes. We also consult patients with abnormal peripheral blood morphology results, such as: reduced or increased leukocyte or platelet values (thrombocytopenia/thrombocytosis). Can patients with suspected cancer or disturbing symptoms such as chronic abdominal pain, bone pain, headaches, progressive weakness, pale skin, increased sweating also be referred to the Clinic? Yes, cancer in children usually progresses differently than in adults. It develops more dynamically, which is why it is extremely important to quickly recognize, diagnose and refer to a highly specialized oncology center for children. Due to our professional experience in recognizing and detecting hematological disorders and cancers, it is worth referring children with worrying symptoms to the local clinic for consultation. In our daily work, we are characterized by oncological vigilance and allow us to quickly respond to worrying symptoms. What age are the patients consulted? These include children from the neonatal period and adolescents up to 18 years of age. How should a patient be prepared for a visit to the Clinic? The child’s parents should have the current medical documentation, i.e. health booklet, information cards from hospital stays and the results of specialist consultations, laboratory blood tests and imaging tests such as: ultrasound, X-ray, CT /computed tomography/ or NMR /magnetic resonance imaging/.
