A tick bite is always a cause for concern. Was it removed correctly? Do I need to undergo tests? What symptoms should I look out for and when should I see a doctor? In such situations, knowledge, calm action, and access to professional help are paramount. Residents of the Wrocław County can take advantage of Health policy program for the prevention of tick-borne diseases, including Lyme disease, implemented in 2026–2028. This is another edition of activities that help us better protect our health, recognize threats, and respond appropriately after a tick bite.
Who is the program aimed at and what does it involve?
The program is open to residents of the Wrocław County, especially those working in forests or agriculture, who are exposed to ticks, as well as those who have been bitten by a tick and have not yet been tested for Lyme disease. Participants have access to medical consultations, diagnostic tests for Lyme disease, education, and online resources available 24/7.
This allows you to not only check your health after a tick bite, but also learn how to reduce the risk and what to do if a bite does occur. The program is financed from the Wrocław County budget with financial support from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Government, and is implemented by the NZOZ Twój Lekarz (Your Doctor).
Why it's worth preventing tick-borne diseases and how to protect yourself
In the case of tick-borne diseases, much can be done before a problem arises. When walking in the forest or meadow, it's a good idea to cover your skin well, use tick repellent, and thoroughly inspect your body upon returning. If a tick has already bitten you, remove it as quickly as possible by grasping it with tweezers as close to the skin as possible, then disinfect the bite site. It's worth monitoring it afterwards. The appearance of erythema migrans, flu-like symptoms, or other alarming symptoms is an indication to consult a doctor.
You can apply for the program by phone at 71 311 12 36 or in person at NZOZ Twój Lekarz locations. More information can be found at www.twojlekarz.net and www.powiatwroclawski.pl.
