Preparation for research
- Laboratory blood test:
Blood is usually collected in the morning. The patient should come on an empty stomach, i.e. after dinner the previous day, no food or drink should be consumed, except water. If the patient takes medication on a regular basis, they should take it on the day of the test, with a small amount of water. Physical exertion and stress should also be avoided before the test. - Urine laboratory test:
Urine collection should be performed with special hygiene. Before the test, the body areas directly adjacent to the urethra should be thoroughly washed. The container into which the patient urinates should be sterile. Urine is collected in the morning, from the so-called midstream (middle portion of the urine). Urine should be delivered to the laboratory within 2-3 hours.
- Skin tests - atopic panel, skin panel, inhalant panel:
During the visit, you should inform your allergist about all medications you are taking. 14 days before the test, you should not sunbathe in a solarium or expose your skin to the sun. 7-14 days before the test, you should stop taking anti-allergic medications. A week before the test, you should not apply medications in the form of ointments or creams, especially those with steroids to the forearms. - Spirometry:
No preparation required.
- Thyroid biopsy:
The test does not require prior preparation
- 24-hour blood pressure measurement (ABPM):
It is a good idea to wear a cotton T-shirt with short sleeves and a loose outerwear for the test. It is important that it has wide sleeves. You should also avoid synthetic fabrics that are easily electrified - this can interfere with the test results.
During 24-hour measurement, patients engage in normal activity. - Holter ECG:
It usually requires no preparation. People with a lot of chest hair should be prepared to partially shave their facial hair so that the electrodes stick to the skin's surface. - Stress test:
The patient should not eat, smoke, or drink strong coffee or tea immediately before the examination. For their own comfort, they should wear comfortable shoes and clothing. If they take medications on a regular basis, they should consult the doctor who ordered the examination, who will decide whether to take them or not. - Heart ultrasound:
The examination does not require prior preparation.
- ENT endoscopy:
The patient should not report for the examination while suffering from a severe cough, which would prevent the examination from being performed. No meal should be consumed 3 hours before the examination.
- Examination of deep vein flow in the lower limbs:
You should prepare for the test as for an abdominal examination. On the day before the test, you should eat your last meal at around 6:00 PM (if the test is done in the morning), then you can drink still water and tea. If the test is done in the afternoon, you should refrain from eating for 6 hours before the test. To exclude flatulence, it is also recommended to take 2 Espumisan capsules 3 times a day on the day before the test. - Doppler of the cranial arteries:
The examination does not require prior preparation.
- Eye fundus examination:
The examination does not require any prior preparation. Contact lenses should be removed before the examination. - Visual field testing:
The examination does not require prior preparation.
During the examination, you must concentrate and cooperate closely with the staff. - Computer eye examination:
The examination does not require any prior preparation. Contact lenses should be removed before the examination.
- Spirometry:
No preparation required.
- Gynecological ultrasound:
Before a vaginal examination, the bladder should be emptied. If the examination is performed through the abdominal wall, a full bladder should be presented. - Abdominal ultrasound:
The day before the examination, you should eat your last meal at around 6:00 PM (if the examination is performed in the morning), then you can drink still water and tea. To exclude flatulence, it is also recommended to take 2 Espumisan capsules 3 times a day on the day before the examination. Abdominal ultrasound is performed on an empty stomach. During the examination of the small pelvic organs, it is absolutely necessary to have a full urinary bladder.
Babies should be examined before feeding time.Preparing children for abdominal ultrasound examination.
You should bring previous imaging test results and other medical documentation regarding diagnosis and treatment to the examination.Newborns and infants:
– No need to follow a diet before the test;
– Please take something to drink (tea, water, or milk);
– Blanket or pad, favorite toy;
– Pacifier (if your baby uses a pacifier)Preschool children:
– For 2 days before the examination, do not give the child raw fruit, vegetables, carbonated fluids, or flatulence-inducing foods; follow a light diet;
Two days before the examination and in the morning on the day of the examination we administer Espumisan at a dose of 100mg/1ml: Espumisan 3×25 drops;
– The child should not eat for about 4 hours before the examination;
– The child should be given a drink (water, tea – NOT JUICE) in the volume of 250 ml 2 hours before the examination; do not give fluids immediately before the examination;
– The examination is performed with a full urinary bladder (the child should report the need to urinate);
– The day before, and preferably in the morning on the day of the examination, the child should have a bowel movement.School-age children:
– For 3 days before the examination, do not give your child raw fruit, vegetables, carbonated fluids, flatulence-inducing foods, or chewing gum; follow a light diet;
Two days before the examination and in the morning on the day of the examination we administer Espumisan at a dose of 100mg/1ml: Espumisan 3×25 drops;
In persons over 14 years of age suffering from flatulence or obese: Ulgix Max Wzbłocia 2×1 caps. and in the morning, on the day of the examination, 1 caps.
– The test should be performed approximately 6 hours after eating (fasting)
– The child should be given 250-500 ml of water (water, tea – NOT JUICE) 2 hours before the examination; do not give fluids immediately before the examination;
– The examination is performed with a full urinary bladder (the child should report the need to urinate);
– The day before, and preferably in the morning on the day of the examination, the child should have a bowel movement. - Breast ultrasound:
The test does not require any prior preparation. It is best to do it in the first phase of the menstrual cycle. Immediately before the test, do not use creams and balms, as well as deodorants and talcs (especially under the arms). - Heart ultrasound:
The examination does not require prior preparation. - Ultrasound of joints:
The examination does not require prior preparation. - Ultrasound of salivary glands:
The examination does not require prior preparation. - Thyroid ultrasound:
The examination does not require prior preparation. - Urological ultrasound:
To eliminate gas from the abdominal cavity, you should refrain from eating for at least 8 hours or take 6-8 tablets of medicinal charcoal. The test is performed on an empty stomach. Before the test, you should also not drink carbonated drinks or smoke cigarettes. - Ultrasound of lymph nodes:
The examination does not require prior preparation. - Hip ultrasound in children:
The examination does not require prior preparation.
