According to a new study published in The Lancet, there are now more than 800 million adults with diabetes worldwide. This number is almost twice as high as the previous estimate by the World Health Organization (WHO), which put the number at around 422 million. The most common form is type 2 diabetes, which develops as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle – being overweight, having a poor diet and not getting enough exercise. Are we doomed to it?
