A balanced diet is one of the conditions for maintaining health. "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food" - this maxim of Hippocrates very accurately describes the way in which we should compose the contents of our plates. The diet must contain all the substances needed by the body, and also take into account age, activity and diseases that it can alleviate.
