Finding a tick on your skin is usually alarming. However, a bite alone doesn't mean you're infected. Ticks can be found not only in forests but also in parks, allotments, and neighborhood lawns. The key is quick action, monitoring your body, and thorough knowledge.
What to do after returning from holiday hikes and walks?
After a walk, thoroughly inspect your body. If you spot a tick, remove it as soon as possible and disinfect the bite site. Prompt removal reduces the risk of transmitting pathogens. Monitor your skin and well-being over the next few weeks. Look out for erythema migrans, which may not be painful or itchy. Not every bite requires immediate testing. The decision to diagnose should be based on symptoms and a medical evaluation.
Lyme disease is the most commonly diagnosed tick-borne disease, but ticks can also transmit viruses that cause tick-borne encephalitis. Therefore, it's important to be vigilant for skin lesions and deterioration in well-being.
Program for residents of the Wrocław district
NZOZ Your Doctor is starting the next edition „"Health Policy Program for the Prevention of Tick-Borne Diseases for 2026-2028"”. As in previous years, the program is intended for residents of the Wrocław County, particularly those working in agriculture or forestry and those exposed to ticks, for example, after being bitten and not previously tested. Funding is provided by the Wrocław County with the support of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Government.
What does participation in the program look like?
A resident of the Wrocław County who reports to the NZOZ Twój Lekarz facility after a tick bite benefits from a free diagnostic and therapeutic consultation. The doctor assesses the risk and indicates the need for further treatment. When warranted, tests for Lyme disease are performed. The program also includes educational materials and podcasts.
What does the patient gain?
Patients receive a medical evaluation, access to tests as indicated, and specialist care when needed. Early detection of Lyme disease allows for faster treatment and reduces the risk of neurological, joint, and cardiac complications.
Don't panic, but be vigilant
Effective protection begins with simple habits: checking your body after returning from walks or hikes, promptly removing ticks, and monitoring your body. The program, implemented by NZOZ Your Doctor, provides residents of the Wrocław County with access to medical evaluation, diagnostics, and reliable education, increasing safety, comfort, and convenience.
